Washington, D.C. – The Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus praised the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s announcement that it will immediately begin administering and enforcing the Fair Housing Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. At a time when the American people are struggling through economic hardship, it is more important than ever that no one be denied housing as a result of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Washington, D.C. – The Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus welcomed the Biden Administration’s new Presidential Memorandum focused on international LGBTQI+ concerns. The Caucus believes that the U.S. must reclaim a leadership role on issues of human rights including the rights of LGBTQ people worldwide. The Caucus and its leaders have advanced several internationally-focused bills in recent years including the Global Respect Act, the International Human Rights Defense Act and the GLOBE Act.

Buttigieg is the first openly gay Senate-confirmed Cabinet official in U.S. history and the Caucus looks forward to working with him on our shared goals.

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus praised the selection of Pete Buttigieg to be Secretary of Transportation, noting the historic nature of the selection and thanked President-Elect Joseph R. Biden for paving the way for the first LGBTQ cabinet member. Buttigieg has already made history as the youngest mayor of South Bend, Indiana and the first openly gay candidate to win a primary state. The Caucus sends him its congratulations and looks forward to working with him and his team.
