OUR MISSION
The Congressional Equality Caucus serves as a resource for Members of Congress, their staff, and the public on LGBTQI+ issues at the federal level. The Equality Caucus works toward the extension of equal rights, the repeal of discriminatory laws, the elimination of hate-motivated violence, and the improved health and well-being for all regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or sex characteristics (including intersex traits).
For the 119th Congress, the Congressional Equality Caucus has identified the following legislative priorities:
- H.R. 15, the Equality Act
- H.R. 1810, the Safe Schools Improvement Act
- H.R. 2487, the Transgender Health Care Access Act
- H.R. 3569, the Fit to Serve Act
- H.R. 3757, the Pride in Mental Health Act
- H.R. 5434, the 988 LGBTQ+ Youth Access Act
- H.R. 5486, the Tyler Clementi Higher Education Anti-Harassment Act
- H.R. 6056, the International Human Rights Defense Act
- H.R. 6151, the Global Respect Act
- H.R. 6181, the John Lewis Every Child Deserves a Family Act
H.R. 15, the Equality Act, is the caucus’s flagship bill. This bill would amend existing federal civil rights laws to explicitly prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics in key areas of life, including employment, housing, public accommodations, federally funded programs, education, jury selection, and credit.
