Equality Caucus Praises Biden-Harris Administration for Protecting The LGBTQI+ Community

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Congressional Equality Caucus released the following statement praising the Biden Administration's announcement of new actions to protect the LGBTQI+ community.

"President Biden and Vice President Harris have been steadfast allies to the LGBTQI+ community and continue to lead the most pro-equality Administration in history," said Equality Caucus Chair Mark Pocan (WI-02). "Our community is under threat, both by policies that strip away our rights and by extremists threatening violence. Today's actions will help improve our community's safety, strengthen protections and support for LGBTQI+ youth, and address the un-American book bans spreading throughout the country. During this tumultuous time for our community, the Equality Caucus is grateful for the Biden-Harris Administration's leadership in supporting LGBTQI+ people."

The Biden-Harris Administration's announcement, in honor of Pride Month, includes various actions the Administration has recently taken or will be taking, including to:

• Protect LGBTQI+ communities from attacks on their rights and safety by launching a new LGBTQI+ Community Safety Partnership;
• Support LGBTQI+ youth by strengthening mental health resources, addressing LGBTQI+ youth homelessness, releasing federal funds to support affirming environments for LGBTQI+ kids, and issuing new regulations to protect LGBTQI+ youth in foster care; and
• Protecting LGBTQI+ Americans from book bans by appointing a new coordinator to address the threat of book bans to students' civil rights.
