The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus announced today that it is forming a Transgender Equality Task Force. This task force is the first task force ever created by the LGBT Equality Caucus. The task force will analyze barriers to full legal and societal equality faced by the transgender community and will design legislative and other initiatives to make the American Dream more accessible to all transgender people.

The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus hosted a landmark forum addressing issues of violence against the transgender community. The forum was held on November 17, 2105 at 2:00 PM in the Rayburn House Office Building. Members of Congress heard testimony from survivors of violence, community organizers, advocates and policy experts.

Roddy Flynn this week joined the Equality Caucus as its new Executive Director. Flynn brings to his new role a track record of championing civil rights for the LGBT community as an attorney at law. As Executive Director, Flynn will help steer the Caucus’ work promoting LGBT equality, supporting members of Congress, and coordinating outreach to outside organizations.

The House Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus today denounced Republican efforts to undermine the District of Columbia’s law protecting women from discrimination on the basis of their private reproductive health decisions. The Equality Caucus urges Members to reject this abuse of congressional authority and avoid setting a precedent of interfering in D.C.’s non-discrimination policies.

Today, the House Congressional LBGT Equality Caucus announced its membership for the 114th Congress. The Equality Caucus will be Co-Chaired by the six openly LGBT members of the House of Representatives: Representatives Jared Polis (DCO), David Cicilline (D-RI), Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY), Mark Pocan (D-WI), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), and Mark Takano (D-CA).
