CEC CHAIR TAKANO BLASTS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED CHARGES AGAINST REP. MCIVER

Today, Congressional Equality Caucus Chair Mark Takano (CA-39) released the following statement on the baseless charges against CEC member Rep. McIver:

"I firmly stand with Congresswoman LaMonica McIver. She was doing what every Member of Congress should do: lawfully exercising oversight. Leveling baseless criminal charges against her is not just outrageous—it is an assault on our constitutional system of checks and balances," said Rep. Mark Takano, Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus. "President Trump is using the vast powers of the Department of Justice to intimidate and silence. He and his cronies are trying to stop congressional Democrats from holding this administration accountable and to send a message to anyone who dares to question his authority. Oversight is not a crime—it is Congress’s duty. And attempts to criminalize it will be met with resolve. My colleagues and I will not be silent, nor will we stand idly by while fellow Members are targeted for doing their jobs."
