Roddy Flynn joins the Equality Caucus as Executive Director
WASHINGTON, DC – Roddy Flynn this week joined the Equality Caucus as its new Executive Director. Flynn brings to his new role a track record of championing civil rights for the LGBT community as an attorney at law.
As Executive Director, Flynn will help steer the Caucus' work promoting LGBT equality, supporting members of Congress, and coordinating outreach to outside organizations.
Flynn joins the Equality Caucus from the Delaware law firm Richards Layton & Finger, where he was an attorney litigating civil rights, intellectual property and commercial issues before state and federal courts and administrative agencies. One of his key achievements while practicing law was engaging with lawmakers to raise awareness about LGBT issues, particularly the rights of transgender prisoners, as the founder and chairman of the LGBT Section of the Delaware State Bar Association.
"Roddy's experience as an attorney defending civil rights and his efforts to raise awareness of LGBT rights with elected officials will be an invaluable asset to the Equality Caucus," Equality Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO) said. "We're lucky to have him and I am looking forward to working together to help the Caucus continue to thrive and advance federal LGBT rights."
"Roddy Flynn possesses a great deal of legal and political experience that will serve him well as the next Executive Director of the LGBT Equality Caucus," Equality Caucus Co-Chair Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) said. "I am looking forward to working with him as we continue the fight for full LGBT equality."
"I'm pleased to welcome Roddy Flynn as the Executive Director of the Congressional Equality Congress. I look forward to working with him and my fellow caucus members to continue fighting for equality for all Americans," Equality Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) said.
"I want to congratulate Roddy on his new position with the Equality Caucus. He brings passion and a wealth of knowledge to the table,"" Equality Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) said. "I look forward to working with him as we continue to work towards equality for all Americans."
"Roddy brings a practical and helpful mix of business and legal experience to the Caucus," Equality Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) said. "I look forward to working with him to ensure loving Arizona families and families across the country can take care of one another."
"I am very excited to welcome Roddy as the new Executive Director of the Equality Caucus," Equality Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA) said. "This month will see a historic decision on marriage equality come down from the Supreme Court, and concerns regarding the issues facing LGBT Americans are becoming more mainstream every day. This is an exciting time to be involved in the equality movement, and Roddy will undoubtedly help the Caucus navigate the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead."
Prior to joining Richards Layton & Finger, the Delaware-native clerked for the Honorable Justice Henry duPont Ridgely of the Delaware Supreme Court after graduating cum laude from Washington and Lee School of Law. He received his Bachelor of Arts cum laude from the School of Public Affairs at American University.
The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus was established in the U.S. House of Representatives in June 2008 by Co-Chairs Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Barney Frank (DMA), along with Members of Congress who were strongly committed to achieving the full enjoyment of human rights for LGBT people in the United States and around the world. The Caucus serves as a resource for Members of Congress and their staff and works toward the extension of equal rights, the repeal of discriminatory laws, the elimination of hate motivated violence, and the improved health and well-being for all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression.
