Equality Caucus Mourns the Loss of Congressman McEachin
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), Chair of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus, released the following statement on the passing of Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04). Congressman McEachin was an active member of the Equality Caucus and fierce ally to the LGBTQ+ community.
"I join in mourning the loss of Congressman A. Donald McEachin, a model public servant who represented the people of Virginia passionately and effectively throughout his career. As an important voice for civil rights, he was a fierce ally and member of the Equality Caucus. In 2017, he led a letter to the administration urging the reversal of the transgender military ban and called out the discriminatory practice against members of the transgender community. He has actively supported and voted for several pieces of legislation in support of the LGBTQ+ community including the Equality Act, the LGBTQI+ Data Inclusion Act, and the Respect for Marriage Act," said Chair Cicilline. "He will certainly be missed, and we will never forget the positive impact he has had on this country and his district. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Colette, their three children, Mac, Briana, and Alexandra, and all of his loved ones during this difficult time."
Founded in 2008, the mission of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus is to promote equality for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The Caucus, which is led by the nine openly LGBTQ+ members of the House of Representatives, is strongly committed to achieving the full enjoyment of human rights for LGBTQ+ people in the U.S. and around the world.
