Equality Caucus Leadership Holds Historic Meeting with
President Biden and Senior White House Officials
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus Chair David Cicilline (RI-01) and Co-Chairs Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), Mark Pocan (WI-02), Mondaire Jones (NY-17), and Ritchie Torres (NY-15) met with President Biden and senior administration officials at the White House to discuss the Equality Act and other LGBTQ+ issues facing the country. This meeting marks the first time the Congressional Equality Caucus has ever met with any President of the United States since the Caucus's founding in 2008.
In today's meeting, Congressional Equality Caucus leadership discussed a variety of topics with the President and senior administration officials, highlighting the urgent need for Senate action on the Equality Act and to get nondiscrimination protections for millions of LGBTQ+ Americans signed into law.
"I am grateful to President Biden for inviting Equality Caucus leadership to meet with him at the White House today. President Biden has been the most vocal ally to the LGBTQ+ community we have ever had in the White House, and I thanked him for his unwavering support. We had a productive conversation about the pressing need for the Equality Act and other legislative and administrative actions to protect vulnerable members of the LGBTQ+ community in the face of the onslaught of anti-LGBTQ+ attacks happening in state legislatures across the country," said Congressman David N. Cicilline, Chair of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus. "I thank the President for his commitment to equality, and I look forward to continuing our work to advance the equal rights of LGBTQ+ people here at and around the globe."
