Equality Caucus Kicks Off LGBTQI+ History Month

October 1, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02), Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, released the following statement celebrating the beginning of LGBTQI+ History Month:

“LGBTQI+ History Month is a celebration of our community’s past and a reminder that queer history is American history,” said Rep. Mark Pocan, Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus. “Anti-equality Republicans in Congress may want to send us back to a time where queer peoples’ stories were only told in hushed whispers—but those times are over, and we’re not going back. That’s why I’m leading the effort in Congress to
establish a Smithsonian museum for LGBTQI+ history & culture as a reminder of our community’s contributions to the country and the world.”
