Congressional Equality Caucus Announces Reps. Jayapal And Jacobs as Transgender Equality Task Force Co-Chairs

February 16, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Congressional Equality Caucus announced Equality Caucus Vice Chairs Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) and Sara Jacobs (CA-51) as Co-Chairs of its Transgender Equality Task Force (TETF) for the 118th Congress. The Transgender Equality Task Force is committed to advocating for legislative and administrative action to ensure that transgender people are treated equally and with dignity and respect. This task force was first launched during the 114th Congress and was the first task force created by the Caucus.

"I am honored to announce Congresswomen Jayapal and Jacobs as Co-Chairs of our Transgender Equality Task Force. They both are strong advocates for the transgender community, and the Transgender Equality Task Force will greatly benefit from their leadership," Equality Caucus Chair Mark Pocan (WI-02) said. "As anti-LGBTQI+ politicians seek to restrict access to gender-affirming care, censor curriculums, and ban trans kids from participating in sports, the work of this task force is more critical than ever. I look forward to working with Co-Chairs Jayapal and Jacobs as we continue to fight against these attacks."

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue my leadership of the Transgender Equality Task Force alongside my friend and colleague Sara Jacobs," TETF Co-Chair Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) said. "As the proud mother of an incredible transgender daughter, I have seen firsthand the joy that comes with the freedom to live fully and unapologetically as your authentic self. As radical Republicans double down on their anti-trans agenda, I will continue to stand up and be a fierce advocate for the rights of all trans people across our country."

"From Don't Say LGBTQ+ laws to anti-trans sports bans and restrictions on gender-affirming health care to book bans, extreme Republicans are mobilizing at all levels of government to deny the existence of the trans community," TETF Co-Chair Sara Jacobs (CA-51) said. "They are stooping to new lows, finding new and creative ways to target trans rights – so we need to be united and unshakeable in our support of the trans and gender non-conforming communities. I'm so proud to serve as a Co-Chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force to advocate for my trans brother, my gender non-conforming sibling, and the trans communities in San Diego and across the country."
