CEC Statement in Support of CBC’s Open Letter to Corporate America on DEI Commitments
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the Congressional Equality Caucus (CEC) released the following statement supporting the Congressional Black Caucus's (CBC's) call for American business leaders to honor their commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI):
"We stand with the Congressional Black Caucus to call on leaders in corporate America to reaffirm their commitments to adopting meaningful DEI policies," said Congressional Equality Caucus Chair Mark Pocan (WI-02). "It's past time for corporate leaders to address how people of color—including LGBTQI+ people of color—remain underrepresented in the workforce and boardrooms across the United States. Adopting genuine DEI policies is the first step towards a level playing field for workers who have faced centuries of injustice."
Background: In December 2023, the Congressional Black Caucus sent an open letter to corporate leaders who had pledged time, money, and resources to addressing racial inequality in their companies and communities following the murder of George Floyd in 2020, encouraging businesses to reaffirm their commitments to DEI, including by sharing updates on their 2020 commitments.
