CEC Rips Republicans’ Reckless Rubber-Stamping of Cuts to Critical Government Funding

July 17, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressional Equality Caucus Chair Rep. Mark Takano (CA-39) released the following statement after the House approved a rescissions package which would rescind $9 billion in federal spending appropriated by Congress just six months ago:

“Once again, Republicans have voted to codify Elon Musk and DOGE’s destructive cuts, including to global health initiatives—a clear signal that America is retreating from our position as the leader of the free world under the Trump-Vance Administration,” said Rep. Mark Takano, Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus. “While I’m thankful that our colleagues in the Senate had the sense to not move forward with cutting more than $400 million from PEPFAR, this bill still makes devastating cuts to our ability to keep the public’s health safe and protect our national security. The Congressional Equality Caucus strongly condemns Republicans’ spineless rubber-stamping of Trump’s reckless cuts.”
