Equality Caucus Welcomes Rep. Everton Blair as Co-Chair

Washington, DC — Following Dr. Everton Blair’s historic win as the first openly-gay Black representative from the South, the Congressional Equality Caucus (CEC) is honored to announce that Rep. Everton Blair will join as a Co-Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus. Today, CEC Chair Takano and Co-Chair Blair released the following statements:

It is my privilege and honor to welcome him—especially as a fellow former teacher—to Congress and announce him as the newest Co-Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus,” said Rep. BACKGROUND
On August 25, Rep. Everton Blair was elected to fill the remaining term of the late Rep. David Scott, who passed in April 2026.

This Congress, the Congressional Equality Caucus has been at the forefront of defending LGBTQI+ equality, including leading the opposition to dozens of anti-LGBTQI+ bills and amendments on the House floor. As a Co-Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, Rep. Blair will help shape the direction and priorities of the Equality Caucus and lead LGBTQI+ allies in Congress in the fight to protect LGBTQI+ people and their rights.
