CEC Condemns House Passage of Trump’s Big Ugly Bill
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressional Equality Caucus Chair Rep. Mark Takano (CA-39) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 1:
“Republicans just passed the largest cuts to healthcare in American history through the House—all because Trump wanted to give his billionaire buddies a tax break,” said Rep. Mark Takano, Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus. “While we were able to keep the GOP’s ban on Medicaid and CHIP covering transgender-related healthcare from being included in the final version of the bill, more than 17 million Americans will still lose their health insurance under this bill. Countless Americans will be directly harmed by this Big Ugly Bill—including the estimated 19% of LGBTQI+ adults and 28% of trans adults on Medicaid. Every member of the Equality Caucus voted against this horrible bill, because we’ll always put the needs of everyday Americans over tax cuts for billionaires.”
