New Report Details House GOP’s Attempts to Implement Project 2025’s Anti-Equality Agenda
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02), Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus released the following statement after the Congressional Equality Caucus published a report detailing how House Republicans have attempted to implement Project 2025’s anti-LGBTQI+ agenda during the 118th Congress:
“When Republicans took control of the House of Representatives last year, we saw an avalanche of attacks against the LGBTQI+ community—and nearly every bill idea was ripped from the pages of Project 2025,” said Rep. Mark Pocan, Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus. “Project 2025 demonizes LGBTQI+ people, especially transgender people, as a core pillar of the plan and calls for stripping away non-discrimination protections for our community. Its plans for our community are extreme and horrifying. They say Project 2025 is a plan for the future, but the reality is—extreme MAGA Republicans in Congress are working to implement Project 2025 right now.”
The Equality Caucus’s new report, Ripping Away Our Freedoms: How House Republicans Are Working to Implement Project 2025’s Assault on LGBTQI+ Americans’ Rights, chronicles the House GOP’s anti-LGBTQI+ activities in the 118th Congress as part of their effort to implement Project 2025’s anti-equality agenda:
- House Republicans held more than 70 anti-LGBTQI+ votes on the House floor
- House Republicans filed more than 155 anti-LGBTQI+ amendments to bills going to the House floor
- House Republicans made, or invited witnesses who made, anti-LGBTQI+ remarks in more than 75 committee hearings
- House Republicans introduced more than 85 anti-LGBTQI+ bills
The report also lays out just how Congressional Republicans have attempted to implement Project 2025’s anti-equality agenda, including through votes to:
- Undermine and end nondiscrimination protections
- Restrict access to medically necessary healthcare
- Censor LGBTQI+ books, symbols, art, and related words
- End U.S. leadership on LGBTQI+ human rights abroad
- End diversity, equity, and inclusion and LGBTQI-inclusive efforts
- Demonize LGBTQI+ people
